Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register?
Registrations is online at www.WestwoodYouthSoftball.org. Deadline is January 31th. Click on the Register Online menu tab on the left.
When does the season start?
The season will start the first week after April vacation (April 26th).
How will the teams be selected?
Grade 7,8 Coaches will draft, no evaluations
Grade 3,4,5,6 Coaches will draft, following evaluations on April 13th.
Grade 1,2 Will try (if possible) to match each player with one friend or schoolmate.
When are the games played?
Games are scheduled Monday – Friday starting at 5:45 PM. Grades 1,2 will also play some Sunday afternoons. Rainouts will be played Saturday/Sunday afternoons. Weather and field conditions permitting, coaches may conduct 1-2 practices prior to the first game. Otherwise, teams may meet up to 1 hour before game time to practice or practice on weekends.
When are player evaluations?
Evaluations will be scheduled for a Sunday evening in April, at the Thurston Middle School.
When will I know my Team & Coach?
All coaches will contact their team before the last week of April and after the evaluations.
When and where is the winter instructional clinic?
This free clinic will run for 5 weeks leading up to the start of the year on Sunday's at the Thurston Middle School as follows:
Players must be registered in the spring program to participate.

Volunteers are needed to run stations in this clinic!!!!
What equipment does the player need to supply?
Glove and sneakers or rubber cleats and white softball pants. The league will supply uniform tops, caps, and equipment bags (balls, bats, and catcher equipment). Although helmets will be supplied, it is recommended players bring their own helmet. Grades 5 through 8 players’ helmets must have face cages and chin straps. We recommend all grades get the face cages.
Where are the games played? (subject to change)
Grade 6, 7,8 Middle School and Roche Bros. Field
Grade 4, 5 Deerfield and Roche Bros. Field
Grade 3 Deerfield
Grade 1,2 Deerfield, Downey, & Pheasant Hill Park (June St. Playground)
Are there umpires for the Games?
Grade 6,7,8 will have ASA umpires paid by the league
Grade 4, 5 will have High School players paid by the league
Grade 3 will have Middle School player (paid) or parent volunteers
What is the approach to Youth Softball for Grades 1 and 2?
At this level coaches pitch to their own team. Every player bats each inning, runs and outs are not counted, fundamentals of hitting, throwing and field positioning are worked on with each player. Multiple coaches and assistant coaches are utilized during each game.
When will the season end?
The schedule is made so that playoffs complete during the last week of public school.
Summer League
From the end of school until approximately August 2nd players can join the Summer league subject to coach availability. Player commitment is required and no more than 3 games can be missed (excepting illness). There are approximately 2 games and one practice each week. There may be Sunday night practices, but no games are scheduled on weekends.
How can I or my company sponsor a team?
Anyone can sponsor a team for $250. Please see website for sponsorship form.
