Westwood Summer Softball
Westwood Youth Softball expects to support at least three teams (14U, 12U and 10U) in the Twin Valley Girls Softball League. This is a competitive travel league with several divisions per age group and some very strong teams. Our summer teams are provided for those players who seek a higher level of competition than is typical of our spring league.
We encourage all interested players to participate in the tryouts. Because of the high level of competition, players should be serious about the game, be dedicated to the team, and have sufficient skills to play against the top players from other towns.
The size of each team is limited. Some players who attend the evaluation may not be selected for a team.
Registration
Registration for summer softball is now open. All players must be registered in order to be placed on a team. Registration is done online at westwoodyouthsoftball.org. The cost will be $75 payable after teams are selected.
Player Eligibilty and Tryouts
Tryouts will be held on Saturday May 15 and Saturday May 22 at the Westwood Senior Center field. In case of rain, alternate days and times will be announced.
All players must attend at least one tryout in order to be considered for placement on a summer team. If a player cannot attend either tryout session, please contact
prior to the tryouts to make alternate arrangements.
Players may only tryout for the team that corresponds to their birth year. No exceptions.
Summer softball candidates are not required to have played Westwood Softball in the spring season. However, where two players have approximately equal skills, preference may be given to the Spring player.

Team Formation and Coach Selection
Each Division Director, and all Head coaches from the Spring Season will attend the tryouts as on-field evaluators for their respective level. If a Head Coach is unable to attend, an Assistant Coach will attend. Following the tryouts, the evaluators will form the teams based on a concensus of the evaluators. Next, coaches will be selected from among the parents of players who have been placed on the teams. Finally, the Westwood Youth Softball Board will review and approve the team rosters and all coaches.
Anyone who would like to be considered for a head coach, assistant coach or team manager position must submit a Coaching Application.

When are the games played?
Games are scheduled Monday through Friday starting 5:30-6:00 PM. Warm-ups start at 5:00-5:15 PM. Typically U10 and U4 teams play on Mondays and Wednesdays while U12 teams play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The league makes an effort for players to have weekends off. Rainouts are generally scheduled for Fridays. Participation in additional tournaments (usually over a weekend) is at the discretion of the coaching staff of each team.
Where are the games played?
This is a travel league and approximately half the games will be played "away" in various towns including, but not limited to, Hopkinton, Natick, Framingham, Franklin, Belllingham, Hopedale or Medfield. Please visit the Twin Valley League website for a complete list of participating towns.
What are player attendance expectations?
All players are expected to be committed to the team, and are expected to attend all practices and games when possible. There are only 10 regular season games. Thus if player expects to miss more than 3 games, she should not tryout for a team. If player plans to be away (overnight camp, vacation, etc.) for a full week or more, the player must inform
prior to or during the evaluations.
